How Traffic School Works in Connecticut

In Connecticut, there is no statewide traffic school dismissal or point-reduction program. Unlike some other states, completing a traffic safety course will not automatically remove a citation from a driving record or reduce accumulated points.

However, individual courts in Connecticut may have discretion to allow traffic school completion on a case-by-case basis. Additionally, drivers may be able to enroll in an insurance-discount course, which is administered separately and may qualify them for a reduction in their insurance premiums even if it does not affect the citation itself.

The specifics of any traffic school option—including approved course providers, enrollment deadlines, associated fees, and eligibility based on the type of citation—are determined by state law and the particular court handling the ticket. These requirements and available programs can change over time.

Drivers with a traffic citation should contact the court that issued the ticket or the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles directly to confirm current eligibility, available options, costs, and procedures before enrolling in or paying for any course.
